Swiss Alps of Oregon

This 4-day/3 night tour will journey to some of Oregon's most majestic, and least known, mountains.* This tour will be filled with outdoor activities amidst these magnificent peaks, as well as time to explore quaint towns brimming with Oregon flair, including what the New York Times hailed as the Remote Oregon Town to Try Next.

*For this tour, Cascadian Journeys operates under a Special Use Permit from the Wallowa Whitman National Forest.
Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 - On our first day, we'll make our way from Portland across the state to La Grande. Along the way, we'll stop in the famed Columbia River Gorge for some light hiking and a picnic lunch among the waterfalls.

Day 2 - Today we'll be on our way to hike the Elkhorn Mountains where we'll hike around several breathtaking alpine lakes surrounded by the mountain peaks looming above. After our hike we'll head to into the Wallowas, known by locals as the Swiss Alps of Oregon. We'll land in the town of Joseph which will be our home for the rest of our tour and where we'll be greeted with a private farm-to-table dinner before turning in for the evening.

Day 3 - Today will be filled with adventure and picturesque vistas every step of the way. First we'll  take a break from hiking for an interpretive drive through Hells Canyon, our country's deepest canyon. Upon reaching the Hells Canyon Overlook, we'll have time to meander the pathways in the area and enjoy a picnic lunch while admiring the vastness of the canyon views. After we're done soaking in the scenery, we'll head back to Joseph for some time to explore the town, with an option for guests to take a tram up to one of the Wallowas' highest peaks. We'll round out the day with a private sunset kayak tour on Wallowa Lake.

Day 4 -  After bidding farewell to these beloved mountains, we'll head back to Portland. We'll stop along the way for a picnic lunch in an area known for being part of the original Oregon Trail. From here, we'll continue on to Portland for you to enjoy the rest of your Northwest journey.
